Miley Cyrus and Other Celebs Outraged by Manny Pacquiao Defeat

Miley Cyrus and Other Celebs Outraged by Manny Pacquiao Defeat

Miley Cyrus and other celebs were excited to see the big Pacquiao vs. Bradley match this weekend, but just like many boxing fans, they weren't very happy with the results.

Just about everyone seems to think that heavily-favored Manny Pacquiao should have taken home the belt after his bout with Timothy Bradley, but he had to give up his WBO welterweight title to the undefeated American after a split decision.

The controversial result of the match did not please newly-engaged Miley. She's probably been on cloud nine since Liam Hemsworth popped the question, but Manny's loss definitely seemed to get her out of her celebratory state of mind.

And of course Miley took to Twitter to complain about Manny Pacquiao getting robbed. The singer vented by writing:

umm wtf?!? were the judges not watching the same fight i was??? wowwww. i keep thinking they are gonna say "gotchya!" #sickjoke.

Of course, Timothy Bradley's win didn't turn out to be a sick joke, so Miley Cyrus continued her Twitter rant:

this just proves that everything boils down to politics. ugh. why cant people just fight fair?! let the WINNERS win!

She then offered Manny Pacquiao a little encouragement by writing:

Yo manny! you just gotta remember what my daddy @billyraycyrus always told me 'when you knock em out, you dont need no judge!'

That's some rather violent advice there, Billy Ray.

It might seem a little surprising that Miley Cyrus would support someone like Manny—she's a strong supporter of gay marriage while he has made it clear that he isn't. However, that just shows you how big of a shocker that Timothy Bradley's win was; even though Miley might not agree with his views, she felt the need to stand up for the fighter.

Manny's loss revealed that there are quite a few celebrities who like watching guys beat the crap out of one another, because tons of other stars took to Twitter to complain about the fight. According to Gossip Cop, Khloe Kardashian must have bet on Manny, because she asked if she could get her money back. Kim Kardashian also tweeted about the bout, saying that the fight seemed fixed. Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake, and Jessica Biel were a few more of the many celebs that tweeted their disappointment with the split decision.

Justin Bieber was one of the celebs who didn't tweet about the match, but he seems to be more of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fan (which is unfortunate for Manny—he obviously digs the Biebs since he sports the singer's old haircut).

But at least Manny knows that he's going to have a lot of support if there's a rematch.

Alexandra Sopp's recovered flute. Sopp is a flutist with the New York Philharmonic.

A New York Philharmonic flutist was miraculously reunited with her “irreplaceable” instruments, which were swiped from a bar Sunday as she celebrated a performance.

“It’s every musician’s worst nightmare,” said Alexandra Sopp, 28, who has performed with Bjork and composer Philip Glass.

“They’re one of a kind, handmade — they’re totally irreplaceable.”

Saturday night began in triumph as she played a demanding flute solo at Symphony Space on the upper West Side.

Afterward, she headed around the corner to Dive Bar on Amsterdam Ave., where she partied with fellow musicians.

“It was a big deal for me,” she said. “We were going out to celebrate these really difficult pieces, incredibly stressful performances, that went great. But then the night took a surreal turn.”

Sopp was carrying a leather bag containing her instruments — worth more than $40,000 — only to notice the bag missing about 3 a.m.

“When I was ready to leave, I turned around and it wasn’t there,” she said.

Her $25,000, 14-karat gold-plated flute — with an $8,000 one-of-kind headpiece — and $8,000 wooden piccolo had been snatched.

“I was beside myself,” said Sopp, who has performances scheduled throughout the summer with the Philharmonic.

“I’ve traveled around the world with these instruments,” Sopp said. “They’re always with me. It’s like losing an arm — I was so emotional.”

After reviewing security camera footage showing a man leaving the bar with the bag, cops were able to arrest Gary Richards, 48, who lives in an SRO around the corner from the bar.

Richards was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

Cops reunited Sopp with her beloved instruments just hours after they were filched.

“I was ecstatic,” she said. “I just said, ‘Thank you,’ a billion times. I’m so grateful.”

Scientists 'discover' legendary lost White City of gold in dense Central American jungle thanks to advanced laser mapping

Scientists 'discover' legendary lost White City of gold in dense Central American jungle thanks to advanced laser mapping

A team of scientists using advanced laser mapping have detailed a remote region of Honduras that may have revealed the legendary lost city of Ciudad Blanca, known as the 'White City' of gold.

Researchers from the University of Houston and the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM) flew over the Mosquitia region in a small plane shooting billions of laser pulses at the ground to create a 3D digital map of the topology beneath the jungle canopy.

Compiling their data, the analysts revealed what appears to be man-made elevation changes that are thought to show a forgotten city plaza dotted with pyramids reclaimed by the jungle.

According to legend, Ciudad Blanca or the 'White City' is full of gold and has been sought out by explorers and treasure hunters since conquistador Hernando Cortes first made reference to it in a 1526 letter to King Charles V of Spain.

Inspired by this legend, cinematographer and Ciudad Blanca enthusiast Steven Elkins sought backing from private investors to pay for the team at NCLAM to use their laser mapping technology to chart the forest floor of Mosquitia.

Over the course of a week, the NCALM and University of Houston engineers flew over 60 square miles of forest in their dual-engine Cessna planes.

And at the end of each day, the data was transferred to Bill Carter, a University of Houston engineer who works with the NCLAM.

He discovered the first indications of what appeared to be man-made structures in the jungle.

'I'm the only person right now on the planet that knows that there's these ruins,' said Carter as he recalled his thoughts when he saw straight lines and right angles on the 3D digital map.

'My wife walked in and looked over my shoulder and she was the second person to know.'

This was one of the first times that laser mapping, specifically light detection and ranging (LiDAR) had been used to locate ancient ruins.

Flying above the intended target area, LiDAR operates by sending out 100,000 short laser pulses to the ground each second.

The University of Houston and the NCALM team blanketed the Mosquitia rainforest with as many as 25-50 laser pulses every square metre that totaled up as more than four billion shots during the entire project.

Like a high-tech version of sonar, the light beams hit the ground and return to the aircraft and the time taken allows researchers to create 3D digital map of the surrounding topology.

Able to differentiate between differences in height of less than four inches, the University of Houston has worked with the NCALM to develop their LiDAR systems.

Ciudad Blanca has played a central role in Central American mythology.

Text's cite it as the birthplace of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl and previous reported sightings over the years have described golden idols and elaborately carved white stones, leading to the lost city's name.

However, no confirmation of the existence of the city has ever been provided.

If confirmed, the discovery of Ciudad Blanca would be comparable to the popularisation of forgotten sites such as Machu Picchu, which lay ruined for hundreds of years until reintroduced to western eyes in 1911 by American historian Hiram Bingham.

Machu Picchu was known locally as a significant archaeological site but it was not until 1911 that it was rediscovered for western tourism

And if the myth is dispelled, any positive identification of the fabled 'White City' of Ciudad Blanca would reignite hopes of finding the legendary 'Lost City of Gold', El Dorado.

While the news of the encouraging results this week were greeted favourably by Honduran President Porfirio Lobo, archaeologists will now have to undertake a trek through the dense forest to visit the site in person.
